If Mama Ain’t Happy…

We’re excited to be participating as a promotional sponsor and exhibitor at the upcoming Healthy Families Conference in Vancouver, BC.    The conference promises to share skills and strategies to nurture strong relationships within the family.  Featuring Peggy O’Mara, editor of Mothering Magazine, as the keynote speaker, along with a host of other fabulous presentations and workshops, there’s a lot to look forward to.

mama-happyMost of all, we’re curious to further explore what it means to support healthy families.  While our work with Mama Renew is clearly focused on supporting mothers, we recognize that the impact of our groups extends to the entire family with changes in parenting, relationships, and the household.   The infamous saying “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”, certainly does hold true in many ways.  Over and over again we witness the importance of nurturing mama in order to support her in nurturing a healthy family.

We encourage you to nurture yourself by joining us at this important community gathering, the weekend of April 18th & 19th in Vancouver.  Learn more and register here.

Our friends at Natural Pod are giving away one free registration to the Healthy Families Conference.  To enter, visit the Healthy Families Conference website, and then comment on the Natural Pod blog to share which conference topic is most relevant to you. To double your chances, leave a comment here our Mama Renew blog in response to one of the questions below.  Contest deadline is March 15th, Value $225.

To be happy is to be surrounded by my family, and also to have time alone to think. What a conundrum! To exercise, be outside and move freely helps me be healthy/happy but I often forgo to clean etc.. I would love to hear Shea Darian speak about daily rhythmns and Suzanne Down on Imagination.

I Love the blog written by Carli about what Doulas do. I am expecting my first child and i fund by serendipity the diving child doula services online and have Michelle. I cannot tell how excited I am to have her energy available to my partner and I. as for the family conference
I had no idea this event was on!!! I was recently lamenting how I am as a first time parent to be going to get in touch with other like minded people and how to set a foundation for our child in this rather complex world. I am also completing my MA in Counselling Psych and this would be an excellent augmentation to my skill set. So please send me

I am much interested in: Activities of Home Life as the Foundation for
Learning:Cynthia Aldinger, Director, LifeWays North America

I am most interested in the talk on Dancing as a Village. I can just imagine the possibilities!!
What makes me be a happy mama? Connecting with other mamas and spending plenty of time outdoors walking, hiking, skiing, or admiring rocks and fallen leaves. Oh, and knitting. Hurray for crafting mamas!

For me, I’m happy if I’m able to have some time to myself to think. Sometimes it ends up being at night in bed after everyone else is asleep, but even then it’s helpful. The conference looks great. I’m intrigued by the talk with Shea Daria – Working Wonders: Cultivating Reverence and Gratitude with Our Children.

I am a happy mama when I get some sleep and have at least a few minutes to myself every day to sip some tea and read or reflect on my day.
I am most interested in cultivating gratitude with our children, although I think all the topics seem relevant.

I keep coming back to setting the table as the session that intrigues me the most. With a child who wants my attention on what he is doing constantly, finding ways to bring his interest to the household and life tasks that are essential for all of us is a constant creative process.

Oh and as for the happy mama – finding the balance between focused time with my son and focused time with myself. If I have both on any given day it is a great day!

What makes me a happy Mama? Making time for myself each day – even if it means getting up at the crack of dawn occasionally. It gives me the energy to be a better parent and spouse!

I am most interested in the talk by Peggy O’Mara on Finding & Creating Community. Moving around alot we find it hard to reconnect with new neighbourhoods, and find like minded souls in a society where those who want to live more naturally are the minority.

What makes me most happy as a mama is hearing my son tell me he loves me – melts me down to the bone! Especially after a tough day. I would love to attend the workshop on The Tasks of Home Life – I’m always looking for ways to be present with my boys and to enjoy doing the daily grind a little more!

Do tell any educators that you know about this conference. This is about helping teachers understand the value of nuturing and home tasks in the class room. If we care for each other and our environment, learning happens.

To so many healthy mamas that I haven’t met yet: I am pleased to say I am doing this conference for you. It came out of meeting so many healty, striving families that were looking for more support and more community. So here it is! In this modern day this takes so much organizing and costs. My wish is that in the future we will know how to gather as a village, in song, dance, creativity and celebration, just naturally. So for now we will put it together for a weekend and awaken deeper our connections. With care for the future!

These days what helps me be a happy mama…those unpredictable moments when the kids just come up to you and give you a hug or kiss or, they decide to play quietly while I have a cup of tea or, at bed time after we’ve read our books and we say our goodnights and I lie in bed with them while they fall asleep…

What helps me be a happy mama? A clean house so we have space to play and create, and time away to recharge.

what helps me be a happy mama? … well sleep, fresh air and exercise. I find that I really need to get to bed early so I get the required amount of sleep. I also need to make sure I get myself and my girls outside everyday. I’ve recently started snowshoeing with a group of girlfriends every other Saturday.

What helps me to be a happy mama is the support of my husband and the health and wellbeing of my children. Just being able to spend rare precious time with my family is enough to lift me up and give me the energy to keep going on the motherhood journey.

By far, the workshop I would most love to attend would be: The Activities of Home Life as the Foundation for Learning with Cynthia Aldinger, Director, LifeWays North America. As a mother of a 2 1/2 year old & 4 year old who is interested in homeschooling and currently training to be a Waldorf teacher, it would be worth it to attend the conference just for this one workshop!
    Blessings…

I love the time I spend in my body, the simple challenge of completing the program. The impossibility to keep thinking about trivial things when I am on the move. just focus on breating and my muscles, it’s my moving meditation.
