Stories from Mama Renew
May 14th, 2009 Posted in News | Comments OffThe magic of Mama Renew is captured in these women’s stories. Each group is unique, and each mother’s journey her own. At the core, however, is the spirit of renewal – reconnecting with the core of who we are as women and mothers, and redefining what it means to care for ourselves and our families.
Enjoy their words…
“Mama Renew has been very precious to me – I surprised myself by how committed I felt to being there AND by the huge little changes that came my way.”
“Moving, leaving my beloved work and watching my child make greater steps towards her independence meant that I needed to get some insight and find renewed inspiration for the journey ahead. Mama Renew has done that for me and I feel gratitude.”
“As a working mother with 2 children, I was giving to everyone but myself. Joining Mama Renew opened my eyes to new ways to honor myself as I care for my family and career.”
“I have gained so much from my Mama Renew group. I was a little intimidated at my first session to be with such strong, dynamic women, but I’ve come to realize we all have so much in common. We laugh outrageously and cry with one another, sometimes in the same evening.”
“There have been many changes as I learned to not judge myself (as much!) and to prioritize self-care: time in nature, gardening, reading. acupunture, yoga, and time quietly enjoyed over a decaf in a café . . . by myself. While my interests are still deliciously diverse, the edge I now play is truer to my energy, core passions and commitments.”
“When I started my boundary setting and emotional self-care had gone out the window. I was really intimidated by the whole “mother of two” idea and needed to build my confidence for the changes ahead.”
“Opportunities to do this kind of self-work have been hard to come by since having children. I am a better parent now because I am finally taking time for me.”
“If Mama Renew is a house, it opens up all the doors and windows to let the fresh air revive you – even your attic and basement! As a parent I can sweep myself into a neglected corner with all the distractions of daily life. But not at Mama Renew!”
“In the 8 years since becoming a mother I have participated in many, many groups – all focused on being a better parent. Mama Renew focused on how I view myself – as a mother, and more importantly as a friend and nurturer of myself. “
“We all came to the group for different reasons, challenging us all to look at our lives through different lenses. I found that I had misplaced aspects of myself since having children, and reconnecting with the core of me was a moving experience.
“I found myself savouring each monthly theme and the homework assignments. Their guiding questions challenged me, and then group discussion pushed me deeper into my own introspection and understanding.”
“Thanks for all the great homework, and I will continue to look for new ways for refreshing and renewing! I have also given the assignments to my husband so that he can do some self care too!”
